The Native Americans claim it works. Two hours in the sauna seems to help me.

Not family trick. An asian trick, and not just for colds, seems to be for everything.

When I get a cold I like to bundle up in sweats and get under several blankets or quilts... a good sweat seems to make it leave your body.

Piling blankets over myself and sweating when I have a cold seems to clear congestion for a while, but I don't think it helps get rid of the cold itself.

I know my grand mother and my mom used to use vicks vapor rub for my cold.

The sweating works for fevers. Chicken noodle soup works for colds. Or at least makes you feel better.

Don't you hate it though when they scratch you with that quarter too hard, and you must endure the pain? :)

Since sweating cools via evaporative cooling the function increases the amplitude of coolth which technically is cold. Thus if you look at it that way, it augments the symptoms of cold!

Sweating doesn't help with colds. It just makes you feel uncomfortable.

Sweating is the body's way of bringing temperature down. If you have a fever and wrap up heavily to promote sweating - all you are doing is raising your temperature to the point that your body tries to bring it down!

Sweating seems to help. When ive had a cold or been sick, but ive felt good enough to, i go to the gym and do some running, it seems to help make the sickness leave the body.

Sweating does nothing to cure any ailment.

I honestly am surprised at the high number of people here given to falling for old wives tales.

You sweat when a fever breaks because your body's temperature regulation is thrown out of whack. This is the same reason you have the chills when your fever is strong.

High fever equals chills because your body temperature has risen greatly in relation to the ambient temp in the room. We feel cold when there is a large difference between ambient temp, and body temp. The chills are also thought to be another way for your body to maintain it's higher temp by promoting shivering and covering up. Remember, a fever exists for a reason, to help in fighting infection.

You have sweats when a fever breaks because your body temp has suddenly dropped, while the ambient temp stays the same, making you feel hot and your body reacts by sweating.
