Does sucralose in itself store (belly) fat or not?

When reading online it's suggested that sucralose (brand name Splenda i believe) can cause weight gain. However, then they explain mostly that it will give you more cravings so obviously if it makes you eat more you will gain more. However what i want to know is if sucralose in itself can store fat, so cause weight gain or belly fat even if you don't eat more?

Splenda has 1/3rd the calories of sugar. Calories are food food becomes fat when you eat too much of it, so yes if you ate just enough to maintain weight but added to that just three packets of Splenda a day, you would gain 1 lb after a year.

Where will your body store that fat? If you're a man, likely the pouch of fat in your belly.

The extra fat is caused by the artificial sweetener response by the body to consume more calories. Sucralose isn't actually storing fat, no. The body is storing the extra calories.

Artificial sweeteners are the devil. Just don't use them at all.

It destroys my gut. Seriously, I can eat almost anything, but I had a couple brownies with that stuff in there and about an hour later I spent a fair bit of time in the bathroom. Never again.

If you're eating whole foods that are fresh and natural, this shouldn't really be of concern. When you need a little extra something something for whatever it is you are eating (say oats) try cinnamon instead. Instead of BBQ sauce on your chicken or meat, try mustard.

sucralose doesn't cause an insulin spike but maltodextrin does. you can use liquid sucralose to avoid that.

sugar alcohols? yes, there's usually a warning that says eating to much will have a laxative effect. that's not what op's talking about. sucralose is one of the most tested food additive and has been consumed by diabetics for over 20 years with out issue. My co-worker recently lost several toes because he drank several mountain dues every day for most of his life, but people never want to discus the dangers of sugar.

I have been using the liquid version of sucralose for three years now and started using it daily to sweeten tea once I gave up Diet Dr Pepper in October. It hasn't caused me to eat more. In fact I've lost almost 100 pounds since October.

If you want an easy, tasty, and cheap laxative, a handful of sugar free cherry life savers will do the trick.

"Too much." I had two brownies. TWO. Seriously? Never, ever again. Nothing you eat should have that kind of effect, and from the sounds of things I'm far from alone.

I suggest to people like your coworker that they just cut the excessive intake of sugar, not just replace it with other crap (and Mountain Dew in any form is not healthy, particularly in large amounts).

Artificial sweeteners are just bad.

I had a small sampling of gummy bears with sugar alcohol. It wasn't a good time.

Your co worker lost his toes because he had too much fat in his system; some of that fat he created the sugar he ate. I had high blood sugar and started eating more sugar, berries and fruits, and my blood sugar went to normal. I've also lost 3lbs a week for the last 9 weeks without ever feeling hungry.
