Does such a hardware device exist?

I am looking to place various speakers in my rec-room, with the following configuration:

* I want 4 speakers to be active during normal music listening only.
* I want 6 separate speakers to be active during movie watching only.
* I want 2 other speakers to be active at all times.

In other words, I'm looking for a receiver where I can activate different speaker sets, depending on what I'm doing. I'm trying to do this so I can avoid buying two separate receivers.

Any ideas?

I have a Monster speaker select box I bought at Best Buy. You can get a 4 or 8 speaker box where you just push the buttons to the speakers you want to use. It connects from your receiver output and hanles 150w per channel. I use it for my outside speakers and inside configurations by merely pushing the buttons for the speakers I want to hear. You connect the speaker wires directly to the speaker select box up to 8 sets if you buy the 8 way selector box. It's any easy install and is very small in size for it's purpose.\Good luck

i think what you want is a receiver with 3 seperate zones. i also assume that you want stuff like dolby digital and dts on in the surround sound area, and just stereo music in the other areas.
