Does Simoniz Fix-It really work?

I scratched up our SUV a little while trying to carry a large metal sign on my roof (metal on metal not good). This Simoniz stuff the late Billy Mays is pushing seems too good to be true.

HA! Never mind....

Popular Mechanics tester Harry Sawyers concludes that Fix It is basically a tube of clear coat. He finds that it does indeed fill superficial scratches in a car's top clear coat, but it does nothing for noticeable scratches that affect the paint color -- the "ones that most of us would want to disappear." In fact, Fix It makes deeper scratches stand out, as if they had been "highlighted with clear fingernail polish."

To think I liked Billy Mays. There's a reason this product was never shown on Pitchmen.

I bought some. It takes care of really fine white clearcoat scratches. However, once it's applied you have to clean off the excess and in-so-doing, you invariably wipe most of it from the scratch. Still, scratches definitely are less noticeable after using it.
