Does running Office 2000 SR-1 update make you register your Office 2000?

I heard before that if you install the SR-1 OFfice 2000 update, that after 30 days you HAVE to register your Office or it will quit working.

I think that is SOOOO bugus. :|

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

No it won't make you register. If anything, it'll ask you once, and if you say no it'll never ask you again.

If you install Office 2000 SR-1 (the suite + SR1) off a CD then you have to register after fifty uses or it won't work. If you install regular Office 2000 and download the Web update to SR1 you will be to asked but you will not be forced to register.

In either case, the only required information is the country.

OK, thanks.. that clears it up. I knew I had heard something to that affect. 🙂

It only applies to the newer CD's with SR-1 built in. I remember now. 😉

On a related topic...Not only does MS make you register academic licenses, but if you register by modem you will send in the product key along with the unique hardware identification number of your CPU (i think its on your CPU...i can't really remember). So the next time you try to install and register the software, you will not be allowed to since MS says that you can only install the software on ONE desktop. I bought a new machine recently and had to call MS to get them to delete the product key from their database so that I could install it onto my new machine. What a pain.
