Does religion simply NEED to have a heaven and hell to control their believers?

I mean if there are no consequences when you die...why listen to what that funny fellow with the collar is telling you to do?, and in the old days, why give 10% or whatever of your hard won efforts to the church? 😉

Using religion to control people is as simple as training a dog....you have to have a reward to look forward to if you do the right thing and fear of punishment if you do the wrong thing. Simple.

you could comeback as either jessica alba or rosie odonnel.

wouldn't both be hell? either you have millions of men drooling over you or you are rosie. kinda a lose lose situation imo

I'm not really bashing religion but when you break it down to it's core it looks like nothing more than a control structure for the masses.

I was always more of a fan of, "If you screw up, not only will you spend the rest of eternity in the firey pits of Hell, but you'll also be sodomized nightly in the State Pen."

Just because the poeple who control organized religion might have it wrong does not necessarily mean there is no God....so I am more of an agnostic since I cannot prove the non-existance of God I have to remain unsure.

I think you could stretch that statement throughout most of europe, not just the UK, since england went to the angelican church/church of england under Henry VIII and seperated themselves from the Pope and ROme

😉 Agreed. just think of the inquisitions, especially the Spanish Inquisition. Oh, and a good example of this was when all of germany was excommunicated by the pope, and the citizens were outraged and forced the king to plead to the pope. I really wish I remembered who the king and pope where, and google isn't showing me much...
