Does refresh rate effect FPS?

Something I always wondered. Does changing the refresh rate in a game (but not resolution) effect frame per second in any way?

I know the refresh rate is the rate at which stuff draws on the screen, not sure if the GPU has to do more work as the resfresh rate goes up, or if that not even an issue...

In windows I find that 85hz i fine, 60hz make my eyes hurt after a while, but in games, 60hz is fine for me...

Its easy to check in your drivers(3D section). Wait for vertical refresh or something to that effect.

By turning vsync on, does it cap to what your monitors refresh rate is for that particular resolution? So 60 hz for my 2005fpw = 60 fps in my game?

That's what it's suppose to do yeah...
I have a 2005 as well, games look awesome 😀

Enabling vsync caps your framerate and syncs the refresh rate of the monitor to the graphics card. So, if enabled, the monitor refresh rate can bottleneck the videocard fps, but at least you get rid of image tearing. Better results can be achieved by enabling Triple Buffering, but that uses a lot of Video RAM, so it's not very efficient.

My games look amazing also, but I find that CS S is pretty unplayable for me with the poor refresh rate. I'm getting 120 FPS + and it feels like 25, I guess I'm just really used to CRT's.

Unless you enable triple buffering then it can degrade your FPS to 1/2 or even 1/3 of your refresh rate.
