<< i just want to iterate that when setting up a raid array, for max perf, each hd should be on its own channel

this will avoid the multiple requests of two devices on one cable, therefore hindering performance..

A good point, it's worth pointing out that good controllers, like those from Adaptec and 3Ware, have four or six channels.

Dang it, just an article about this couple of days ago. It was very long and exhausting article. Basically he said that for photo editing and manipulating large files, go for raid. For everyday stuffs like word processing, gaming,....no need for raid.

not so, a raid array can help games load up to 20% faster

Definitely agree on that. I have about 100 DM maps for UT and the average map loads up in around 5-6 seconds. Used to take around 8-10 seconds. I can see that many folks will say "wow, big deal...a few seconds." Well, it's important enough for me, so I stick with it.

There's a definite performance advantage to RAID0, no matter what you do. Whether it's worth the money or not is entirely subjective. For the money I spent on the drives, I could've gotten a GF3...but I chose to wait on the GF3 for the obvious reason that the price will come crashing down in a few months....like it did right after I bought my GF2 😛
