Does rage pro support GL games?

OS

Lifer
what the title asks? Thinking about playing like quake 1 on a system with an ATI rage pro in it.

Yes....it does support GL...although it will be slow. Quake 1 will be playable though...but don't expect too much.

Man why did ATI even bother with 3D then. Should I just run quake in software mode then? This is on a K6-2 400 with 160 megs of ram.

Heh, even thought it was slow, some older games were pretty playable with it (Rage Pro OGL performance specially sucked BTW). I remember even playing Quake3 with my Ati AIW Pro on 400x300 resolution with all eye-candy turned off: Rage Pro almost manage to bring 30FPS in some scenes 🙂 In Quake1 w/320x200 resolution ATI's HW rendering might be faster than software... and it's probably nicer to look...

I run UT on my lappy that has a Rage Mobility Pro (Rage pro-lite?) in OGL mode and it is very playable. Of course I have to turn down some detail, but hey, it works. On my sons PC I popped in a 32meg Rage Fury card and most games are run in GL and that card play them great. ATI had very good inexspensive products pre-radeon. Even their xpert 98 cards held their own. Not too shabby for a 40 dollar (back then) card. Beat the hell out of anything S3 had at the time. 🙂
