If it is blatant advertising, then I hate it. Otherwise, sometimes product placement can make a movie more realistic - see Blade Runner for product placement done right.

If it fits, I don't have a problem. I'd rather them drink a real beer than some can with a fake label over top.

For example, Seinfeld had TONS of product placement, but it wasn't brought on by advertiser dollars. Writers knew it would be better if they were real items (Junior Mints, Rold Gold pretzels, Bosco, Kenny Rogers Roasters, etc)

As long as it doesn't interfere. I really don't care that James Bond only uses sony electronics. I didn't care that the Recruit only used apple hardware (the CIA using macs? yeah right). They might as well make money on the brands they show.

yeah exactly what i was thinking. it's no coincedence that Daneil Craig uses a sony VIAO laptop and a sony erricson phone.

god, this just reminds me of the famliy guy episode where Peter becomes a lobbyist for a smoking company. they show this movie where every 2 seconds, a guy says smoke!.

also in bond...

vesper: rolex?
bond: no... omega...

It's annoying when they go out of their way to verbally identify something instead of just showing it.

Now if you'll pardon me, I am going to go enjoy an ice cold, refreshing Pepsi. Pepsi. The choice of a new generation! ;)

it depends. if it's very obvious, yah i dont like it. but i also don't like it when people are drinking soda and on the side of the can it just says "SODA", or when someone's drinking beer and it just says "BEER" on the label or isn't even labeled.

Real people don't spit out slogans while smiling for a camera... unless they're vain and standing in front of a mirror :p.

You know what movie had a lot of product placements? The Truman Show, and they were all so obvious too.

I think that was part of the joke....the TV show was on 24/7 so the actors (ie: everyone but Truman) had to work in advertising on the hidden cameras. I don't recall them advertising any "real" products though :p

Product placement can add some realism, but a majority of the time, it is overdone and painfully obvious that they are advertising.
