does product placement in movies annoy you?

I am watching The Bourne Identity. It pleases me that Jason Bourne spends much of the movie driving around in an old and battered red mini. I'm glad the producers didn't charge Ford or whoever to include their car in the film.

yes

It's always painfully obvious, and takes me out of the movie just as much as if the actor would have had just randomly stopped and started about how much he loves Taco Bell.

Yes.

PS: I love that bit of the movie as my first car was a mini just like that. It wasn't as bashed up as that....till the end.

It can annoy the hell out of me. If its unobtrusive, I can't blame the company, especially if its their own product. If its purposely displayed center screen for no reason but advertising, like Sony stuff in Casino Royale, then yes, it bothers me.

Depends how they handle it. Usually it's annoying.

haven't seen you here for a while. :p
Heh, yeah, thanks for noticing! I had a life for about 10 months, but I just moved and don't know anyone in this new town... so once again I find myself frequenting ATOT.

where did you move to?
Pullman, WA -- little town near the Idaho border (I was in Seattle before that). You still in the same place in Australia?

Not as much as it used to annoy me when everyday objects in movies had the brand names disguised.

yeah exactly what i was thinking. it's no coincedence that Daneil Craig uses a sony VIAO laptop and a sony erricson phone.

god, this just reminds me of the famliy guy episode where Peter becomes a lobbyist for a smoking company. they show this movie where every 2 seconds, a guy says smoke!.

if its not obvious, no. i find ads in video games more annoying. for instace, in Rainbow Six: Vegas, there are Axe ads all over the place. everywhere there might be an add, there's an axe ad.

I did two trimesters (weird school, right?), but quit when I got a really great job offer. Did that for nine months (moved out to a suburb w/ my bf), then decided to transfer over to the university and work on an English degree.

I don't even bother to pay attention to the product placements. It's not like seeing someone in the movie going to Taco Bell is going to suddenly make me want a Chalupa or anything.

I wonder what time they open.....

If they're not blatantly in your face placements I don't have a problem with them.

Now in racing (NASCAR etc) it only bothers me when their talking to the driver/crew and they try to mention all the sponsors during the conversation. "Well the Home Depot, STP, 7-UP, Kotex, Trojan, Verizon, Borden, Tide, Purina, Penzoil, Goodyear, Dodge was running good today."

It annoys me if it gets in the way of the movie. There was one movie I saw that was so bad I wanted to change to QVC so I could get less commercials. iirc it was contact.

<Actor> I need to get back to MSNBC
<camera focuses on a crate of Ensure sitting on a small boat dock>

WTF?!
