The pattern of social classes in Hinduism is called the "caste system." It is being practised in India since thousands of years. In olden days, people who belonged to certain caste were supposed to do only certain business. One of the classes that are merchants is "patels". A lot of Patels migrated to USA in early 70s and 80s. They bring a lot of their relatives from India to USA. These people are generally hard working, money minded and shrewd.![]()

My neighbors on both sides of me are Patels.
Patels are known for being Merchants. A bit shady. They are known to be shrewd etc.
