The queen of talk, 58, has ignited uproar in India after she is heard asking whether Indian people still 'eat with their hands.'

The controversial comment came as she sat down to dine with the Somani family in Mumbai.

OK, i dont know if i should be angry at Oprah for being ignant, or whether to be angry at the indian folks for serving her food without utensils. cmon folks, this is OPRAH from the USA, not your mother-in-law from Banglore. :\

India is just bizarre, but whatever people want to do/however is fine with me.

whatever floats their boat

Oprah, they also wipe their ass with their left hand.

Eating with your hand is one thing but above is just weird (I'm sorry).

Is it lack of paper? What's the reasoning behind this.

I also hear that people like to shit/piss all over the streets etc (some places are just disgusting).

SO I guess this begs the question. Why in the world would anyone want to visit India?

She is eating in India. In India they don't use utensils.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

For her to not know about Indian customs, a country which represents a significant portion of the earth's population, is embarrassing. A woman of Oprah's fame and position has staff and people assisting/advising her. They should have known this and clued Oprah in. Fail on everyone's part. Now she looks like a retard and offended over a billion people.

Her comment: "I heard some Indian people eat with their hands still" specifically the word "still" implies they have not progressed/evolved and are backwards. She could have easily just said "I heard some Indian people eat with their hands" and it would have come off as a curiosity on her part or a question about the customs.

She is also seen eating with both hands. If you go to India, she should have known the left hand never makes an appearance at the dinner table. It is as disgusting/offensive to Indian people.

Simply put, a woman in Oprah's position needs to act like a politician and not offend people. She and her business model thrive on the support of her fanbase and maintaining a positive image.

You going to go nuts on this lady because she made a mistake on 1 word?

Even Oprah is human you know....no body is perfect.

I'm not Indian, I'm not offended. But I can see how her comment can be interpreted and why it offends. A woman in her role can't offend people like that because her biz model depends on people's opinion of her. It was a blunder on her part plain and simple but it made her look dumb and narrow minded.

It sounded innocent enough. She was expressing an interest in expanding her horizons and learning about another culture. There are certain foods common in India that people would eat with their hands such as taking flat bread and dipping it. I don't see anything to be offended about here.

I can see why people need to get a life and get over it.

Agreed

For god sakes, lady went to visit India, why in the world would anyone assume she hates Indian people.

How do you go from perceiving people as primitive (which I think she has every right to do, I know I do) to HATE.

umm I just ate with my hands the other day. How else do people handle BBQ these days? I must be out of the loop. Eating with your hands in your home wouldn't be weird at all, out a restaurant I could see it being weird.

this is probably part of the reason why they are slow to move to toilet paper.

So people in India eat with their hands? Oprah asks if they eat with their hands? And people get offended?

You eat BBQ at a restaurant with a spoon?
