Does my body hate apples or do apples hate my body?

I've been having this issue where I feel rather nauseous after doing a run + outdoor workout by the beach (pushups, pullups, & tris)-- sometimes the sun is out and so I attribute some of it to being hot and dry heaving (I sometimes chug water more than I should during a workout).

Recently I have actually begun barfing after working out (in the parking lot on my way back no less), twice this summer, once in May, and today. I rarely barf at all, so this is obviously concerning to me. My warmup snack consists of salted roast sunflower seeds and some slices of Fiji apples.

The Fiji apples are fridge-stored, but I have noticed parts of them get that kind of brown spongey texture, which I remove from the relevant slice. In both ocasions that I yacked however, it had been the apples that had come up, which leads me to ask:

Are the apples I'm eating (coupled with the workout) causing me the issues, or is this some other sign of some weird stomach disorder I have? Or is it something else?

P.s. I thought it was my water (I had been reusing a Dasani bottle) so I got new bottled water and still had this issue today.
 
Many people can't eat anything before a workout - but the time varies with each individual - some people need to wait 20 minutes or less after eating anything (even light) before working out and some people need an hour or two before doing so. Some people can be affected with post workout snacks/meals too. You might want to experiment with the timing??

I do not see why the apples would bother you if they never had prior (do you have prior issues with these apples?).
 
After an intense work out, I usually feel kind of crappy after. I also eat right after, too.. So it could just be the inrush of a ton of calories and nutrients flooding the body all at once. Could also be a slightly lowered or highered blood pressure if you feel a bit dizzy etc.

Why don't you eat an apple with out having worked out? Then see if apples have anything to do with it.
 
Try a surgery drink instead of water for before and during your work out. Sip it. I feel terrible without my surgery drink and bcca drink for training. I try to finish eating 60-90min before a workout as well. BUT sometimes when you push the boat out extra hard you just feel terrible.

Thanks for all the feedback-- nope haven't had any issues before with these apples (they're TJ's Fijis) and I usually end up waiting about 20 min anyway after eating the snack because I also do a quick stretch (L/R arm over/under shoulder stretch) before I go run/workout and then prep/put on the rest of my workout clothes.

I guess my concern was that maybe the apples have gone bad in the fridge? I bought them not more than two weeks ago.

Do you mean 'sugary' or 'surgery'? I am not sure what a surgery drink is.


OP, it could just be that you're working really hard or you can't handle eating right before working out. Try eating some time before working out and letting it settle. I generally eat a piece of fruit about an hour before I head to the gym, just so my stomach isn't completely empty.
 
Don't eat 60 minutes pre- and post-workout. It's probably not the apples. If it were an allergy, you'd have other symptoms most likely. If you don't get this problem with other foods, then I'd say your best bet is to just... wait for it... don't eat apples.

They could be messing with your sugar levels.

1. Heavy work out during summer months.
2. Drinking large quantities of straight water rather than something with electrolytes.
3. Throwing up after work out.
4. Mentioned it being hot and dry heaving.

Having suffered from severe heat exhaustion once though where I landed in the hospital, I just don't want that to happen to you. Everything happened to me in the exact same order: Heavy work out, drank nothing but straight water, began throwing up.

Maybe I'm wrong?

I'm leaning more towards a minor form of heat exhaustion, as frustrating as that is because I just stocked up with a bunch of water bottles.

I did have the problem AGAIN on tuesday, although I didn't barf as much, even though I ate a pretty conservative serving of apples and sunflower seeds an hour and a half before I went to run and then workout.

I also notice I have this problem when its sunny outside. When it's overcast/cloudy (which it has occasionally been here lately) haven't had this problem. I'm about to do another workout session tomorrow, any steps I can take to mitigate the chance of this happening then?

I only have straight water unfortunately 🙁 Any suggestions for electrolyte drinks?
 
K, well I just bought some gatorade, so if I barf in the parking lot tomorrow it's going to look like a clown got smeared on the pavement.

There's also water with electrolytes added into it; flavored and otherwise if you aren't fond of Gatorade. It's usually in the water section... Essentials and VitaminWater are ones I like... good luck with the gatorade trial.

So...did my workout today and...I yakked. On the sand. In front of some German tourists.

As a refresh I did my full routine: run 3/4 mile to the beach, stretch + 80 situps, run a mile and a half to the bars, 21 pullups, 68 pushups, 38 tri-ups, then 18 pullups, 48 pushups, 32 tri-ups, then 17 pullups, 38 pushups, and 28 tri-ups with stretching in between, followed by a mile and a half run back down the beach (the run was slightly truncated since I paused and then yakked).

Weather was very sunny and temps about 72*F/23*C with something of a breeze but still very warmish.

P.S. is it possible its the salted sunflower seeds I'm having with the apples as the morning snack that are causing the issue?
