What I need to know is how exactly do I update the bioses and the chipset drivers. I heard it is actually best not to update the mobo bios because it is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I don't get how to update the chipset drivers. What is the proper way? If I use Driver Cleaner, do I use all the nvidia filters? Should I update with the latest drivers from my mobo manufacturer or from nvidia? Should I also get rid of the display drivers when I update my chipset drivers?

Thank you for the correction, I'm not at home to verify the RAM speed on my card so I just used the above-posted numbers.

So you think 3200ish is a very low score on High quality for an unlocked 6800 running at stock speed?

Athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 2.2GHz, Gigabyte silentpipe 6600GT AGP

I get 3200-3300, you are a bit higher with a better CPU and video card, so I think you are pretty close to what you should be getting.

For stock, that's normal. If you unlock the 4 pipelines (assuming you have agp) and OC it, you'll get a better score.

Also, try different drivers, they give slightly different results.

Ok I redid the test with High Performance on, windows on high performance, my firewall and antivirus off.

My score: 3676

Not much of any improvement if you ask me.

Ok I could update drivers, but they won't be the MSI updated drivers. The latest nvidia drivers from MSI are the 76.45 drivers that I have. I was told to only use drivers provided by your manufacturer by people in forums. Same with the motherboard chipset drivers, the latest I have is v. 6.39 for the nforce4 chipset provided by Chaintech, the manufacturer of my motherboard.

I have some questions now. Should I install the latest drivers from Nvidia? How would I install the motherboard drivers? What is the best procedure and what filters do I use in Driver Cleaner? When I install the chipset drivers to I uninstall both the previous chipset drivers and the display drivers? Should I flash the motherboard or video card bios? I heard it is dangerous?

Thanks.

Nvidia drivers are fine, I have only ever used the ones off their website.

Your scores are right where they should be for stock settings. Overclock your CPU, Ram, and the 6800, and you will get better scores. 3dmark05 seems to love memory speed.

Man so many conflicting viewpoints. Some say my scores are fine, others say my score is way under what it normally should be.
