In the end Milk is neither necessary nor is it unhealthy. Due to its fat content, its consumption should be monitored especially in children who are either overweight or inactive. 2%, 1% and skim milk are alternatives for those who can tolerate the lactose. Soy milk is a good substitute if you are lactose intolerant. Lastly ounce for ounce milk is more nutritious than soda or sugar drinks, as excess sugar will be converted to fats anyway.

sure its food, just don't drink whole milk past age 2 or whatever. fat children = fat adults, baby fat is bs.
and yes, black helicopters...are flown by genetically altered hormone pumped cows.

A study that looked at the correlation between acne and milk consumption among teenagers concluded that the hormones in the milk, IGF-1, was likely to blame. I'm guessing adrogens would increase growth. I think some people believe the dutch are so tall (like 6' 2") because their diet is very high in diary.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer...ubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=15692464

As for calcium and vitamins, broccoli and spinach have like 10x as much.

They didn't conclude, they hypothesized.

We hypothesize that the association with milk may be because of the presence of hormones and bioactive molecules in milk.

Yeah, I said conclusion because:

CONCLUSION: We found a positive association with acne for intake of total milk and skim milk. We hypothesize that the association with milk may be because of the presence of hormones and bioactive molecules in mil

Then again, science isn't real keen on proving something as absolute truth anyway. I never said causation, or that they proved it caused anything, but that they believe it is likely the cause.

Here, this one's even better:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer...ubMed&list_uids=15981182&dopt=Abstract

In the United States, milk (usually cow's milk) is widely considered an "essential food" to support bone growth among post-weaning age children, as evident in government-sponsored nutrition policies that mandate milk for children. Milk contains calories, protein, and calcium, among other nutrients, and bioactive components such as insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), all of which may facilitate bone growth.

Results indicate that adult height was positively associated with milk consumption at ages 5-12 and 13-17, after controlling for sex, education, and ethnicity.

Milk is great for body building or lifitng, as it is full of casien protein which takes a full 7 hours to digest, so if you mix milk with your protein shake (or you can buy casien protein shakes) you get a steady flow of alpha and beta peptides throughout the night, making your sleep less catabolic when you cannot be eating.

Also, LMAO at all those idiots that fall for Soy milk advertising etc. A study last week and a month ago confirmed that males that ingest soy as part of their diets (tofu, soy milk, other forms of soy beans) causes them to have higher estrogen levels.

Heh... Ask most diaticians or doctors, and they'll tell you that hard/mineral water is a better source of calcium. Milk has more, but the body can digest/absorb more from water... I was surprised.

And as for wanting to drink it, BLEH! I never liked white milk. I don't think I could choke down a full glass on Fear Factor... :)

Note that milk is simply water with fat floating in it.

What is skim milk?

Milk is a colloid that has fats/protein suspended in it.

Link the study! There's some vegans on another board that won't believe my links to t-nation.com's anti-soy articles. Even the one where the FDA scientists resign over it, they call them incompetent or something.

You said they concluded IGF-1 was the cause. The abstract indicates nothing like that, they didn't even look at causes, they found a correlation. The abstract doesn't even mention IGF-1.

Yep, I love T-Nations articles. Dave Tate has some awesome powerlifting articles there also. The study I read was in a magazine, if I can find it and scan it I will. Although it can probably be found in Pubmed online or some other journal.

LOL. I did not say it caused anything with absolute certainty. Read the bolded.

IGF-1 is the hormone in milk associated with acne. I've read it elsewhere, and you are correct that they did not mention it in that particular summary. Look at the study that talks about the correlation between height and milk, it does say IGF-1.

Of course there is a link. IGF-1 is found in a lot of things, and too much of it causes acne etc. Hell the ever popular Muscle Milk by Cytosport had to release a MM Collegiate powder now because of the IGF-1 found in oils they put in the product, which to much of could lead to positive urine tests.

You said they concluded; clearly they did not.

I just went and scanned through both of the articles. Both are speculatory with regard to causes for the correlations they present.

Here's the first sentence in the conclusions section of your second article:
Both outcomes reported here - that milk positively impacts height and that milk has no effect on height - are intriguing, and each makes sense in its own way.

Later in the conclusions section they speculate about how IGF-1 may be doing something, but it's speculation; they qualify their statements to indicate such.

As for the second article regarding acne, here's the data (note that it's based on recall).

Women who did not report their high school diet had slightly lower prevalence of severe teenage acne (6.8% compared with 7.2%).

You seem to be lacking in general reading skills....

I said that their conclusion was that hormones were likely to blame.

What I said:

A study that looked at the correlation between acne and milk consumption among teenagers concluded that the hormones in the milk, IGF-1, was likely to blame.

I never said that the study concluded that IGF-1 to be the definite cause.

I tried to explain I said conclusion because it was the conclusion to the study, but you seem to think I've injected the word conclusion as if it were a proof or absolute conclusion to an acne/milk correlation/causation. I tried to explain this by quoting the study where it says it had a CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION: We found a positive association with acne for intake of total milk and skim milk. We hypothesize that the association with milk may be because of the presence of hormones and bioactive molecules in milk

I admitted that I injected IGF-1 based on other studies. Here is one:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer...ubMed&list_uids=15781674&dopt=Abstract

CONCLUSIONS: Increased IGF-1 levels in addition to androgens may influence acne in adult men and women. While IGF-1 appears to have a stronger effect on acne in women, androgens may play a greater role in acne for men. However, in both men and women these hormones are interrelated, possibly owing to reciprocal effects on hormone production.

Again, not claiming it to be definite, just saying what the study says.
