Does midiland make good speakers?

So a local store has a MidiLand home theater system (prog scan dvd player plus 5.1 speaker system) on clearance for $59. I figure it would make a nice gift for my parents but I don?t want to give them crap ? does MidiLand make good speakers? I know they used to but I haven?t heard much about them in the past two years. Worth the gamble or no? I?d just buy it and try it but this is a gift..

s2 4100s are great for size and for the price they are going for now. but then they make some crappy stuff too so...

For $59 you can't really go wrong, do you happen to know what the original price was?

I can guarantee it's going to be crap in the grand scheme of things, but if it plays DVD's and makes noise you have a bargain at $59.

Viper GTS

Hey,
I agree with your reasoning, Viper. I just picked it up... The original sale price was $119 but the cashier didn't know what the retail price was. Seems decent enough for my parents - progressive scan dvd player with mp3 and svcd playback, internal dolby digital decoder, 4 cube (looks like bose) speakers and a subwoofer... Doesn't have a seperate receiver so I'm assuming that a very basic one is built into the dvd player. I'm going to give it to them tonight as an early gift so that I can play around with it and buy one for myself if it doesn't totally blow.

Forgive me for reviving an old topic, but just my 2 cents, being the owner of 2 pairs of Midiland S2/4100s. Midiland makes TERRIBLE speakers.

Diamond Audio made the S2 line for Midiland :-D. The S2/4030, rare 4060, and awesome S2 4100 were all designed and built by Diamond Audio, who are primarily a high-end car audio company. They still do a lot of low-end OEM multimedia speaker design for companies like Gateway, but nothing like the S2 line anymore, unfortunately.

Midiland now does their own stuff iirc, and I have yet to hear any of it that was worth the money.

well Icy006, i am well aware midiland did not make those fabulous 4100s 🙂 there is this guy at head-fi trying to sell his unit REAL cheap... wonder if it sold yet 😱
