Does Mercedes build cars that are technically superior ?

My father had a Benz(bought brand new in 1969) and had two more afterwards. I, myself, owned Mazda and Mitsubishi vehicles for the past 30 years.

The Japanese cars I had were cheaper to run and more reliable. I rarely had to take my Japanese vehicles to the shop. If you read Consumer Reports about the reliability of the MBenz, it sucks! So don't tell me about "superior German engineering"...

THey used to, in the 80s and early 90s. Unfortunately they could not stay cost-competitive to their rivals. As such, the quality suffered until very recently as they are trying to claw back the quality that had lost.

Before the mid 90s, Benz's were made to last; with the utmost engeering. If a normal car could get away with 2 bolts, Benz would use 4 steel ones. That is overly simplified, but you get my point.

Benz are still the technology leader; they are packing tons of electronics and fancy gadgets into their vehicles; but it remains to be seen if their latest advances don't hamper the ownership expeirience.
