Mazda won Le Mans once. Honda, Toyota and Nissan never did because they can't build durable racing cars because of their short fuses...

Mazdaspeed is more of a performance line than two of the names you mentioned--Nismo and Mopar--at least in name.

There's a Mazdaspeed6 and a Mazdaspeed3, but no Dodge xxx Mopar, and only the Frontier comes in a Nismo edition.

in america the frontier was the only one nismo released, skyline nismo edition, se-r nismo edition. ect can all be found elsewhere in the world

As you know, I've been a V8 Mustang guy forever Steve, but test drive a Speed 6 just once, and tell me you don't like it.

I will agree the whole zoom zoom thing is retarded...

I, as well, have been a Mustang guy. I will try and put pride aside, and try and fit in one of these "speeds" you all speak so highly of. Problem is, I'm almost 6'4" and the cock-pit might not fit me. :(

Right now the Mazdaspeed 3 is a pretty nice car. Lightweight, plenty of horsepower, and not stupidly expensive. I've been pondering getting one for quite some time, but don't have the cash just yet. It has 263 HP, 280 ft-lb torque, and since it's lighter than other cars like the Mazda 6, there is even more added benefit.
Mazdaspeed3

The Mazdaspeed 6 is the more expensive version, but there seems to be an issue with it's performance not being up to the point it should be at. In a year or two they should fix the performance issues, but right now the Mazdaspeed 3 seems to be more bang for the buck.

263 HP may not sound like a monster car, but when it's a smaller car that's more than enough.

No offense, but you are flat out wrong about the MS6 not having it's performance where it should be. It beats the MS3 in just about everything, and handles waaaaaaaaay better with AWD. Car and Driver picked it as one of the quickest cars of 2007 under $30k.

There was a early powerloss issue with the initial build cars, and places where 93 octane is not available (it requires 93), but that was long ago addressed by ECU flash at the dealer. There are a few pulling as good as a 13.7 at the track with no mods and the car weighs almost 3600lbs. The MS3 is great for the boy racer types, but they had to play all sorts of tricks with the ECU to get it to hook up with FWD and that much power. There is a reason it has less power than the MS6.

Also, 70-0 in 155ft braking is Z06 territory...

:)

I bet you'd fit fine Steve...it's roomy inside, and the 8 way adjustable, heated leather seats in the GT model are awesome...imo.

My bad, last time I had heard it was still having the powerloss issue unless there was aftermarket cooling used. The one thread I had read, the guy left a big bag of ice cubes sitting on the cooler, to get the car to where it was supposed to be performance-wise. It's good to hear that they fixed it in a ECU.

the speed 3 is not exactly lightweight...i think its around 3100+ lbs, not obese but not a supermodel either.

mazdaspeed 3 is also only a hatch, whereas the 6 is only sedan, so depends on what your preference in styling is, and it has no more performance issues, nor is it more expensive its around the same price (or was when they were trying to sell the 2006 models)

both are amazingly fun cars :)

Uh, "strapping a turbo onto an NA motor" is about what the idea is behind most go-fast small cars. It's all in the tuning. :p

And of course, the "can the person driving it shift worth a damn."

Jeeeez! $30k for a MAZDA?

Aren't people aware they can buy a used (1-2 year old) Lotus Elise for $30k?

Uhh, where do you see $30k? It says starting at $22,835. I will definitely be getting a mazdaspeed 3 once I get out of college. You can't compare it to a Lotus Elise. That's not a practical car while the Mazdaspeed 3 is. Right now I have a miata and it's a lot of fun as a weekend car but it sucks as an everyday car. I want something that I can take more than 1 person in or actually be able to carry stuff.
