Does mail get postmarked when it gets picked up?

hmm... not quite sure... but for rebates and stuff, i usually go to the post office and ask them to do it at the counter.

They closed the door right when I got there and wouldn't let me in. I had to just buy the stamps and drop it in the slot. One rebate is supposed to be postmarked today, one is supposed to be postmarked tomorrow.

when they process it at your local postoffice, before shipping it out

if you "need" a postmark, you should go to your nearest "main" postoffice, the ones with extended/decent hours

it really depends on where you live. If you live in a less densely populatered area the mail won't be post marked at the your post office but at the distribution center. I live in NJ and most of or mail gets postmarked at a regional postoffice. ONLY during tax season and christmas does it get postmarked at the local postoffices.
