I remember, before mac's were highly preferred for art/media software, such as photoshop, and video editing because the G4/G5 processor was significantly quicker than PCs for the job.
But now that they both use the same CPUs, do they still have an advantage?

No advantage, and the fact that they switched to Intel should tell you that the 'advantage' they used to have was all hype.

If they don't have some kind of special photo/video editing applications, then no, they shouldn't have an advantage. AFAIK, they use Photoshop too.

There are still audio recording/editing programs that are Mac specific.

The advantage wasn't the hardware so much as the software. A lot of software (including Photoshop) used to be Mac-only.

 Photoshop hasn't been Mac only since 1992.

The way I understand it, the main reason that Mac's were preferred was because of their ability to competently handle color profiles and things of that nature for printing.

The iBrag vs. Vanilla PC is long dead because there is no advantage after they iron out the kinks on ported/rewrite software from Mac to PC.

Actually, it is part due to the hardware. Macs used to employ bit-packing. I doubt this would have any affect now though.

The only advantage that Mac has today is that the majority of Mac tend to be more stylish with gayish eyes candy.

I've been using a PC for my entire life and I've been doing design work on it for a while. I just recently got a Macbook Pro from my college (UArts) so I've been doing some stuff on there as well. To be honest, I can't see a difference. The only difference I see is within the OS itself. OSX seems to be geared towards the average shmo who needs a step-by-step tutorial for everything.

I find it amusing that the graphic design labs at my school are all new macs, and the CS labs are all new Dells.

Same damn hardware.

Some people prefer the feel of Photoshop on Mac because there's no need for a container window.

out of curiosity, what exactly did you do that prompted your feel of a step-by-step tutorial?

I'm pretty sure that Final Cut is ONE of the defacto standards that editors use to make movies. So, unless Apple released that for Windows, then they'll always have one advantage over a Windows based machine, even if they utilize the C2D processor.
