Does liquid plumber work?

To an extent. I'd just go ahead and get a snake from HD or Loews. This way you're prepared in the future.

What is a "snake"

Basically, in it's simplest form, it's a piece of flexible wire with an auger head on it. What happens is that it gets into the clog, where it can then either break it up, or it can be used to pull that clog out.

The cheapo stuff hardly ever works but the name brand gel liquid plumber works pretty good.

Can't I just use a wire hanger?

Not if it's 10 feet down the line 😉

How much would one of these "snakes" cost me. Link?

wont liquid plumber eat thru plastic pipes?

No.

But it will eat thru aluminum pipes. Learned that the hard way... Don't ask me why I had aluminum pipe in my drain system, though.

on more than one occasion, I've heard of people poking a hole in old metal drain pipes using a drain snake.
if you don't feel comfortable fixing a drain pipe yourself, then I wouldn't buy a drain snake

Works for me ... mostly dog hair that goes down the drain when I give him a wash. I'd say it was my hair, but the hair on my head is mostly gone (shaved), and the hair on my back refuses to fall out! Regardless, the stuff is gross, toxic and scary, but it works.

Your back hair?
