Does leaving a CD in the drive when powered off actaully damage it?

No, it won't hurt either the drive or the disc. I used to do it all the time, but it was a hassle because sometimes I'd turn one machine off with a disc I needed for another machine still in the drive, so now I try to remember to take the CD out before I power down.

No,it`s will be okay,I only take my CD out of the drive if I plan to open my case & turn it on it`s side while I`m upgrading etc, just a precaution(better safe then sorry).
🙂

No, not at all. I leave audio CDs in my drives all the time . . . they run with my Organic Art Screen Saver. Best show around! 🙂

oh man.. don't you know? Cd's are made of plastic that slowly degrade, giving off vapors that eat away at the delicate internals of your drive. For the love of god, keep that drive empty when your not using it.

NO but it will add a few seconds to your boot time if the cdrom is ahead of the C: drive in the drive boot sequence.
