unc - I hope you don't have a Talon/Laser/Eclipse, because the dipstick popping out is a very common problem on those and may not have been related to the Jiffy Lube place.

I hate them just as much as everyone else, just don't want to see them blamed for something that's not their fault...

I have a horror story for you.....

When I lived in UK I used a chain franchise once....Kwik-Fit.
They specialize in exhausts, but while I was in in they convinced me to change brake pads & shoes.

Well they did not close the hood down properly. I drove off and got about 2 miles down the road, the wind caught it and it blew back....almost tore it off.....and I almost hit a bus....completely wrecked the hood and the hinges.

They even had the area manager sucking up to me on that one.....

<< She is my baby, but this week is hell school-wise and I honestly don't have time to spend in the garage. Jiffy lube is like 30 minutes max and it's on the way home :( The oil is below the lowest mark..very very bad. >>

Go to the local *-Mart, pick up a quart or two of oil and dump it in. This should hold you off until school let's up some and you have time to do it yourself or take it to a respectable establishment.

<< I *am* due in for an oil change .. the indicator is on red level >>

That indicator is telling you that you are low on oil, not that you are do for an oil change.

I have never used them for my cars because when I was a kid I had a bad experience with them.

My grandfather took me with him to get his oil changed at Jiffy Lube, and we were out of there in less then a half hour.

About 3 or 4 miles down the road the engine starts knocking. So I take a look underneath the car. What I saw simply amazed me. The mechanic(If you can call them that) forgot to tighten the oil pan plug so it fell out and by the time we stopped and realized it we had already ruined the motor.

The car was still driveable but any mechanic knows that when you put a motor through that it is never the same and if it's caused by someone else's negligence they certainly should be held accountable. We made sure they replaced my grandfather's engine and when I got my first car I learned to work on my vehicles myself.

They ended up replacing the motor but either way they will never get my buisness. None of them!!!

My friend went to go get his oil changed and they ended up draining the transmission fluid and putting oil in there instead. Uh ok... it might have a dipstick but that's not where the oil goes... needless to say... my friend still had the old oil and the new oil in his transmission...LOL... the car started locking gears and it messed up his whole tranny. :(

They are awful. I used to work at a real auto repair shop and we got alot of work out of fixing Jiffy Lube's F-ups. Stripped oil pan drainplugs are common. Some Honda vehicles require a special type of power steering fluid, and I've seen them put regular ATF in there and destroy the power steering pumps on those cars. Certain Ford vehicles require a newer specification transmission fluid (Mercon V) and they've put standard fluid in there.

I've seen them do the double o-ring on the oil filter. This is when the o-ring gasket from the old filter is still stuck to the engine block and they crank the new filter on. After a short time, the extra o-ring blows out resulting in a massive oil leak. And yes, I've seen them drain transmission fluid instead of oil and pour oil into a transmission.

Saturn vehicles have a spin-on filter for the transmission which looks like an oil filter. I've seen them change THAT filter instead of the engine oil filter.

The list goes on and on.
