here my pc :

GTX 480
Asus p6t se
6GB ram
PSU : 850w corsair

i don't care about Power Consumption , heat , or noise .... i only care about performance ....
i play games like :
Crysis 2
Skyrim
Battlefield 3
Max Payne 3

and also plan to paly Crysis 3 , C&C 2 , and BF4 when it comes ....

what will be better opinion ? grab now gtx 670/680 or wait for 700 series ... cause single 670/680 will not be strong enough for 2013 games ... help me to choose ...

I say do it. It's going to be a while, at least as far as we know, before we see the 700 series. Of course me not being a fan at all of the 480 might color my opinion.

The 670 is a real solid card for $400, if you don't mind a reference model

What resolution do you play at?
Are the games you play not running well enough for you?

If current games run well, buy an upgrade only once the new ones are out...

Grab a second 480 at about 200 bucks then for SLI. For the most part SLi'ed 480's will be faster than a 680 or 7970.

A GTX 670 is about 50% faster than a GTX 480, has 512MB more Texture memory and runs much cooler (buy a card with custom design and cooler. Like the ASUS DC II. It is very quiet).

In short: I voted for the upgrade.

Uh....1.5GB is more than enough for 1080P. You won't run into any memory limitations at that resolution. Not saying not to upgrade, just that adding another 480 will be faster than any single gpu you'd be considering.

Just to clarify, I'm in the "buy the fastest single gpu you can afford" camp rather than the "multiple slower gpu's are faster and cheaper" camp. However, OP stated above he doesn't care about noise, power or heat. He hasn't indicated multi-gpu bothers him and already has one 480 and they are dirt cheap ATM. Clearly, that's the most performance he's going to get and for the least expense. 670 speed is going to cost him $400, faster than 680 speed is going to cost him $200.

more than enough? no. even at 1080, you can run settings in a few games that get near or even exceed 1.5gb of vram especially with mods.

Show me a (non ridiculous) situation in which at 1080P a 670 is faster than SLI 480's.....

I'm with oilfield if you have a 480 and noise/heat doesn't bother you why do it? You're probably very high fps on your current card

The benefit of selling that 480 and getting a GTX 670, instead of going 480 SLI is that he can get another GTX 670 in a while and go 670 SLI. Which will be much faster and run more silent and much cooler VS the 480 SLI.

That solves the whole thing then...
If currently happy --> Do nothing
If currently disappointed --> Spend big

Don't buy today's GPUs for tomorrows games. When Crysis 3, BF4 or whatever comes out either newer faster stuff will be out and/or current cards will be cheaper.

I went from a 6970 to 7970 and oced the 7970 a bit high. The difference is night and day. Even when the difference is at its lowest, we are still talking of 50-60% performance difference when the 7970 is oced, even within limits. Avg performance difference is 60-80%+ and for some stuff 7970 is like twice as fast once overclocked.

Overall, you are guaranteed a 50%+ difference irrespective of the situation with a decent overclock.

going from a 480 to 670 stock is smaller. However, it is still sufficient and worst comes worst you will see a 30-40% gain at least and on an average oced vs oced 40-60% avg gain I guess.

I get that...The performance of my 480's was more than adequate, I was quite satisfied with them. I only got the 680 as it was quite close in performance from a single card, and I tend to go through spurts where I just like to play with new stuff. To be honest I'm probably going to end up with a second 680 Lightning as I'm going through one of those spurts right now.

I voted upgrade, I sold my 570 and was going to get a 680, but been waiting for a 4GB non reference card from Gigabyte, MSI or Asus still waiting.... As my 460GTX isn't cutting it at 1080P in some game I play and ones I have waiting to play on my desk. Also in Diablo3 with AA on game runs only at 30fps with this card... :(
