I prefer the magnetic style shower heads versus the slot style ones. Makes it easy to place the head back up.

I was thinking of this one however I believe the majority of the parts and housing are plastic.

Depending on what you have in place, you may just need to replace the visible hardware.
I currently have this type on the left and want to change it to the lever style on the right in the middle. I like the idea of the magnet though. The reason I want to change the head is because when the head rests on the slot, it points to the right and just sprays my shower curtain. I have to hold it and point it straight when I'm in the shower. I'm sure I could prop it somehow but it'd look tacky.

We had to do this in our house to replace a leaky valve that could not be purchased in the same 1960 length.
What you want to do is not in a normal persons skill set. Call a plumber.

Damnit! I wasn't able to mess with it this weekend, but glad I didn't start ripping it apart. I probably would've broke something trying to get the parts off.

Washer on the flush valve fell apart. I hate plumbing. At least this model is still made.

Oof. You might get lucky and be able to do a direct switch out keeping the same brand. DELTA used to advertise their ability to change finishes as your tastes changes as mostly had the same underlying valves.
Good luck either way.

Yea, no. I'm not touching this thing. I *may* change just the shower head but so far I've just been dealing with it.

I'm pleased to announce that I have successfully installed the faucet. The unit was $180~ and that's it. Saved about $300-400 I bet.

The steps weren't complex but very annoying. The most of the gripe came from removing the calcified & rusted nut to get rid of the existing faucet in the cramped space. I definitely swore a lot though.

All in all, learned a lot. Those valve shut offs make me so damn nervous. Why are they all so flimsy across different homes? Water coming out of the screw and all. It's good now though.
Congrats, now you know why every cartoon plumber ever has been drawn under a sink with mostly symbols in their dialog balloon!
