Does it matter which AAA you join?

There doesn't seem to be a central website for AAA and thus I'm conflicted as to whether I should join

AAA chicago

or

AAA California.

I'm currently living in the bay area in California, but will be driving to attend school at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. (2 hours south of chicago) in about a month. Does it matter at all if i choose one or the other?

AAA is good nationwide. It doesn't matter which area you get it in. I've stopped in AAA offices in other states for maps and advice and had no problem. I've never had to be towed while out of state, but I wouldn't expect any problems.

The first step in curing a problem is admitting you have one....

Oh wait....you're talking AAA not AA. Umm...well....just find a local office.

Still....you really should deal with your drinking....

Yea, it does. California alone has a southern and northern division. Since moving to northern california, I had to change my address and if you're in trouble, call a different number.

If I call the southern california number, they transfer me anyway, so I'd say not much of a difference, but still a difference.

well i want to get it before my roadtrip over to UIUC...so i should join the Chicago one ahead of time? but then how will that work? Won't the address on file be the one at UIUC and then they'll ship my card over there? 😕

They might have different rates for insurance. I couldnt get AAA N. Cal to cover me when I'm at college in S. Cal.

I don't need insurance...I just need the *service* portion? I already have State Farm 🙂
