they all come from the same place!!!

they come from a fab plant in oregon

they are just packaged in costa rica or the philippines or malaysia

you can get a chip packaged in CR and it'll perform the same as a chip from Phil... and at the same time they can be completely different.

o/c-ing is all luck

if it says SL6Z3 or SL6Z5 depending on if you have a 2.4C or 2.8C, then that's how you know it's a M0

if it says SL6WF,G,H,K then it's a D1
if it says SL6WR,S,T,U then it's a D1 as well

M0's only come in the 2.4 and 2.8C variety

hope that helps

The M0 stepping is a P4EE stepping. It's manufactured with a different mask, and presumably overclocking is better with this stepping.

as Andy said, it's rejected p4EE's

they ahve the same resistor layout underneath as a p4EE

if you look at a D1 and an M0 resistor layout they are different.

D1's overclock well as well but M0's supposedly do better...

well why don't you tell my 3.0 D1 @ 4.0 ghz that it's not good!!! :D

I was told by intel tech support that the M0 stepping requires that your motherboard have the ability to supply more power (like the EE it needs the extra power too).
Also I was told that the quantities on M0 will be low (probably the EE rejects... i would presume...)

you are likely right thay are EE rejects that the l3 cache did not pass, however I wouldn't see the need for increased power if these things were disabled.....

I have seen many run M0 steppings across many boards and I don't think I have seen too many issues...It could be most hte boards I have seens used or pretty top notched and rumored to be able to run the new prescotts when they run and I can definitely see the need for more power there....

Well i am just going off what the Intel tech support guy said... for the board I was talking to him about rev 303 would not take the M0 and revision 304 and 305 would.
the only difference between rev 303 and 304 was the cpu voltage regulation. and the difference between rev 304 and 305 was they messed up and put extra capacitors next to the cpu making it impossible to install the retail HSF. He then made me check all of my processors to make sure they were D1 steppings because he wanted to make sure they would work (i wound up w/ two 303s and one 304) so i had to return the 304 to get a 305. All my processors were D1s so I did not have to worry about it.

1st letter or digit=packaging plant code

0=San Jose,Costa Rica
3=Costa Rica
1=Cavite,Philippines
R=Manila,Philippines
7=Philippines
9=Penang,Malaysia
Q=Malaysia
L=Malaysia
8=Leixlip,Ireland
Y=Leixlip,Ireland
6=Chandler,Arizona

Example:

Your CPU: batch - 7318A376

7=plant (Phillippines)

2nd digit=Year of production (2003)

3rd & 4th digits=week (18th week )

(A7376)=some kind of traceability number

I don't know what the rev numbers mean...What board are they??? Are they INtel manufactured boards??? If so then it is likely since they usualy dont come bundled with ocing type options the case is the enthusiast boards are probably more beefed up....

Intel likes making bords with limited cycles so they can screw you out of more money later...

haha yeah it was an intel board, but i don't think that it wasn't "beefed" up because it is a serverboard
http://www.intel.com/design/servers/s875wp1-e/index.htm?iid=ipp_srvr_mthrbds+s875wpie_srvr&

for the most part Intel's server stuff is pretty good.
Now as for regular boards, I'm sure they can handle it... I was just saying that they might have a slightly higher draw, and if you have bottom of the barrel cheapo mobo your stability might go out the window...
