does it matter if the US is less socially conservative?

Social conservatism is a plague on this nation. It has corrupted and continues to corrupt.

Once we can move past it's obsolete and antiquated stupidity, we will be better off as a nation, perhaps at that time we will even be able to join the civilized world.

The world can only be civilized when the people are civilized. Look around you, or even at you, during rush hour traffic. Civilized, isn't it? Or during Black Friday. These are tiny examples but it shows that people aren't civilized in America or anywhere else.

As for social conservatism, it is only a symptom in terms of the problems facing humanity.

Why is social conservatism needed?

You need social conservatism because without it homosexuals would be anally penetrating one another in public with impunity (oh the horror!) and then our kids would think that homosexuality is A-OK and they'd color everything pink and pastel green.

Also, women would have too many 'bortions and then they wouldn't give birth to impoverished children and crack babies and babies with all sorts of developmental disabilities, and we all know that God loves his crack babies and Down Syndrome babies.

Also, without conservatism people might use birth control, and we all know that whenever a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate! "Let the heathens spill them on the dusty ground. God shall make them pay for each sperm that can't be found!"

In short, without social conservatism kids would grow up to be either gay, they would have 'bortions, and they would have too much sex for non-procreation purposes.

People who choose to be single unwed parents cause their own poverty just so they can get free government money. A sex maniac and their money are soon parted. If we can get the government from being a pimp who pays the hookers, maybe we can move forward.

The problem is that if a single parent gets married they will lose the government money. However, on the other hand, if they get married two wage earners will make just enough money to be above the poverty line. Then they will be taxed to pay for other single parents. This is the world that the liberals created.

The so-called social conservatives voted in a liar and a cheater as their congressman in South Carolina recently. These same people probably go to church, read their holy books and then do the same things, yet they are supposedly more "moral" than somebody who does not adhere to these things. Are they any better than a non-Church goer? Or everything that happens at a place of worship stays there? Then why even go there if you're not going to follow the teachings?

The realization (I had in elementary school) that people who acted this way who I recognized as the heathens that were being preached against on Sundays also self-identified as Christians was the most depressing time in my life up until that point.

Identifying oneself as Christian does not make it so. Plenty of Churchgoers are simply paying lip service.

I also have a friend who self-identifies as Buddhist though his actions frequently don't match up to that belief system. ..and friends who identify themselves as Hindu, yet eat beef when it is convenient.
Everyone is a hypocrite at some point in their lives... this truth alone doesn't damn religion and the good that religious training frequently does however.
