Does it make a girl an attention whore if she posts her cell phone number in her profile?

yea...a moron seeking attention b/c she's asking for random strangers who can see her profile to call her. I dunno..i think it's dumb when i look at people's profiles and they've got their numbers or any other personal info posted.

On here, you'd be crazy. On AIM, your SN is kept pretty private, so it would be okay to post there for friends who are trying to reach you.

Agreed. I dunno if I'd call it attention whoring...it's possible, but it's also possible that the person is just incredibly naive and trusting, or just really didn't think too hard before acting.
But putting a cell # on AIM...I see that all the time. Too many people have my name for me to do it, though (especially when I run out of daytime minutes as is, dammit).

However, I'll say I've seen a guy and a girl post their numbers on this forum, even though not in their profiles. Each person opened a thread to post his and her number, and each asked explicitly to be called by members. Why the girl would be considered an attention whore but the guy wouldn't puzzles me. I remember the girl actually got negative feedbacks more than the guy did. If I'm not mistaken, she was "pitied" or seen as an attention whore. Actually, you know . . . I guess there's a possible explanation: Guys significantly outnumber girls here. I guess with the average American's nature to think of everything in sexual sense or along gender line, they promptly assumed she was up to no good.
In a different setting such as AIM where there are so many females, as well as males, I guess it would be seen differently. The class of people that hang out there too would be the types who would love to see her number.

Yeah, I too don't think it would be particularly intelligent. I would never do that, and I was shocked in both cases that anyone would do it. However, the question wasn't how brilliant it would be! It was about how she would be perceived. I think the past incidents at this forum demonstrate that she would be perceived as an attention whore; whereas if a guy did the same thing, he would not be perceived that way at all. That's the internet world we're in! Uh-oh! 😛
