so when a boss/manager/co-worker passes by your desk and you're browsing away on AT (or any other site in general), does it look worse if you alt-tab away?
or do you just leave it on screen and pretend like nothing is wrong.

I always make sure to listen if someone is coming, and if they are I not only switch the tab on the browser, but the window as well. I usually have a web mail opened in the first FF tab so I can ctrl-1 then alt-tab rather quickly so it looks like I'm doing something.

I have to alt-tab between apps and browser windows for my actual work anyway...

One of my old managers did that... he would both sneak by and walk by loudly.

I usually have 2 or 3 windows tiled so it looks like I just have a big mess on my screen. Also AT's layout is fairly plain looking so it doesn't attract the eyes like many of the heavy flash or image sites.

I have my firefox set to clear private data when i close it.
So, this consultant lady was needing to speak w/ me and pulled up a chair, as she was sitting down, i closed FF (had gmail / etrade up or something she didnt need to see) so she looks up to see me clearing my private data. I'm sure that didnt look suspicious at all...lol

It's a twitch for me to alt-tab.
They usually know I don't do crap at my desk anyway.

Yea, I've been doing that as long as I've been using a computer. I hate when people look over my shoulder at my screen no matter WHAT I'm doing. Sometimes I'll alt-tab away from Eclipse into a Firefox window :p

Alt tab looks worse but it's better than having nosey coworkers reading your screen and commenting loudly on something.

Definately alt-tabbing. Looks very suspicious.

People usually don't look too close if you have a window up anyway imo.

I leave it up most of the time. The boss knows we don't work all day long and that we surf the net on our spare time and having ATOT(esp with its clean look) up is way better than youtube, that's for sure.

Damn, I'm spoiled. My boss doesn't work in our building, so the 6 of us really don't give two shits about anything as long as work is distributed equally and it's all getting done. Hell, and even when my boss comes over (every once in a blue moon), he's too busy discussing where we're going out drinking after work to notice all the pr0n I'm surfing on company time.

It works worse to Alt-Tab i think. I sometimes see people do that when I'm say walking into the cube (some 2 person, some 4 person cubes) to talk to someone else. It's like, I don't know you, and even if I did, I don't give a damn if you're on the web.

A few weeks ago I was just in and on the web (nothing else open since I just got in and having coffee), my boss came right up on me (sneaky), I said "yeah, I'm not working yet", he's like "I see that", then mentioned something about the article I had open. Heh, oh well, I don't charge that time. I only do brief browsing during actual working because the testing I do has various stages that can take a few minutes each to generate, compile, run, etc, so it's that or just sit there watching it.

Just Ctrl+Alt+Dwn Arrow your screen like the other thread here talks about. That should surprise some busy bodies when they sneak up on you. :D
