No, as long as they don't act like an idiot. Sensitive topics should be talked about.

And without fail, they DO act like an idiot. A closed-minded idiot. "OMG MY POSITION IS SO RIGHT AND IT'S OBVIOUS AND YOU SHOULD ALL LISTEN TO ME!" That's exactly how it is every time anyone tries discussing a sensitive topic - because the people with any reasoning abilities when it comes to that topic aren't engaged in it and thus don't initiate a discussion of the topic and thus nothing gets accomplished. Evar.

Haha I agree with you, sensitive topics bring out emotions and people feel strongly... then usually hell breaks loose. Talking about them with friends usually yields better results than over the Internet. :)

hell no. ill dive right in- im probably more opinionated than is good for me. the trick is making stupid people understand that political/theological opinions are in no way a hindrance to personal relations. my friends are all over the place in political opinions.

bring them out, argue about them, remember that you went into it knowing that no one's mind would be changed, then forget about it and go have fun. :)

No, only when they say ignorant things...but I think that whether they talk about sensitive issues or otherwise.

I enjoy the P&N debates.

If you ignore the 4 or 5 crazy people, you'll have some pretty sane discussions. :)

What does bother me is that a typical thread in ATOT regarding any of those issues invariably brings the dumbasses out of the woodwork and causes what could have been a good discussion to degrade into a pointless flamefest. If I see the words "homosexuality", "prostitution", "race", "marijuana" or any other hot-button issue in the thread title, I'm skipping over it.

same here. I refuse to read the thread the OP posted on slavery because I knew the level of ignorance and intolerance would probably be off the charts (considering the topic).
