Does it bother you when other people talk about sensitive issues?

This is kind of an extenstion from the slavery thread I posted a few days ago. To be honest I was kind of shocked by the responses, especially where some posters felt that the issue should never have been brought up. So I thought I'd run a poll on how people here feel about somewhat sensitive topics.

it bothers me when i see ignorance in people in regards to racial issues. but in general, it doesn't bother me. i like to actually read them. oh, i would also have to say that the ignorance in some of the religion related threads also bother me.

so many people are just so sheltered. i'm glad i grew up and still live in a very diverse area where I am exposed to pretty much everything.

no...what bothers me is when a person doesn't understand something entirely yet they attempt to give their opinion on it.

It depends how reasonably they can discuss something. A typical talk-over-a-beer discussion is usually pretty interesting, but a typical P&N feces-flinging contest is not.

only time it does is when someone gets mad to the point of violence over something. A good debate is fine. But sometimes people lose control during such debates.

I agree, being able to grow up in a diverse area really makes a difference when discussing certain issues later in life.

yea because half of the people in the discussion are ignorant on the entire subject yet they still claim to have knowledge.

I was kind of making that point in my last thread, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion though

No, it doesn't bother me to talk about those things.

What does bother me is that a typical thread in ATOT regarding any of those issues invariably brings the dumbasses out of the woodwork and causes what could have been a good discussion to degrade into a pointless flamefest. If I see the words "homosexuality", "prostitution", "race", "marijuana" or any other hot-button issue in the thread title, I'm skipping over it.

Nope, it's either a fun debate or great entertainment, depending whether I get involved or not.

Yeah, I read the first page or two of that thread and just left. There was rampant retardism running through that thread. I don't understand how people don't realize that slavery still affects America (and the world) today.

I was hoping my post would have shed a different perspective but it seems like most people were'nt interested in hearing it.

No, as long as they don't act like an idiot. Sensitive topics should be talked about.

And without fail, they DO act like an idiot. A closed-minded idiot. "OMG MY POSITION IS SO RIGHT AND IT'S OBVIOUS AND YOU SHOULD ALL LISTEN TO ME!" That's exactly how it is every time anyone tries discussing a sensitive topic - because the people with any reasoning abilities when it comes to that topic aren't engaged in it and thus don't initiate a discussion of the topic and thus nothing gets accomplished. In short...no it does not bother me...unless racial slurs and what not start taking place..then we have a problem. I won't stand for racial slurs in any way shape or form, regardless of what "race" they are directed at.
