does it annoy you when coworkers speak a foreign language to eachother?

about 1/3 of the guys in my department speak spanish. frequently, they'll talk to eachother in spanish.

it's always kind of annoyed me. I mean, I can understand what they're saying, I speak decent spanish myself, though they don't know that, but it seems rude, since the majority of my department doesn't speak the language and, for all they know, the spanish guys could be totally trash talking them to their face.

Not in the slightest. About 1/2 of my employees speak Polish, Russian, Spanish, or Bulgarian. I speak to them in English, and try to learn their language as well, because they can speak English, and are working to improve it.

I think it's just human nature to be annoyed when other people are communicating with each other within hearing distance in a language you don't understand. Paranoia factor?

But, but they are not trying to communicate with you. Didn?t your mother teach you that it is rude to ear drops/listening to people conversation?

All the " " users - Would you be offended if coworkers starting holding whispered, private conversations in front of you?

No. If they were talking sh!t about me like that, it would actually be kind of funny because it's so pathetic.

Geezus Christ! They're not talking to you. You're not part of the conversation. Why should they season their conversations in order to make you feel more comfortable?

No, It doesn't offend me when my ex GF talk to her friends and family in Polish and same thing goes for my current Chinese GF. Many girls whisper to each other when they are in a group with guys and it doesn?t offend me.

Just invent your own language and start talking to yourself, that'll teach them.

my bank has a large hispanic clientel so the tellers have to be bi-lingual. It does not bother me at all when the staff deal with te Hispanic clientel in Spanish. What pisses me off, however, is when the tellers and a few customers are laughing and joking in Spanish across the entire bank for long periods of time... leaving the rest of us wondering if we are still in America or not.

just a pet peeve.

My coworkers are all Japanese. I just tell them that I will go WWII on their ass if they don't start talking in English.
