does installing nForce2 require HD reformat?

I read that installing an nForce2 mobo in a system requires a reformat of the hd.

Is this true?

It's always a good idea to reformat after a major component change (mobo, cpu, etc)

I had no problems when I installed my Asus mobo (replaced an old Intel board). I didn't reformat the hd then.

What kind of problems can pop up if you don't reformat?

Windows NT does not respond well to a change in the disc controller. It will BSOD on launch. It is a [slim] possibility that you could go from NFORCE1 to NFORCE2 boards though.


WinNT 4, 5 (win2K) and 6 (winXP).
