Does increasing Virtual Memory, decrease Performance?

Hey, guys

I recently increased my Virtual Memory, for 1 Gb to 4Gb ( max) hoping to be able to play WoW better.

My PC has then started to slow down a bit, I have to wait to do the simplest of things now, Open Folders. Files etc.
This may be the case, since virtual memory is slower, THUS since its so large now, the PC would want to try and use is more often, hence slower down performance. WHat do you think?

Time Zone Pacific Standard Time
Total Physical Memory 383.23 MB
Available Physical Memory 176.11 MB
Total Virtual Memory 5.01 GB
Available Virtual Memory 4.65 GB
Page File Space 4.63 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

Please, another question, I have 384 mb RAM, and only 176 is available. Is that normal? Is there any way to increase that with out purchasing more RAM.

Thanks a lot guys,

-Rory

This is most likely because you have integrated graphics and it is using your system memory. You can probably turn this down in some video options somewhere, but that would decrese performance in games. Best bet is to buy an older/used AGP/PCI card.

And don't force it to 4GB, just set max range to there. If you did not force it to 4GB and it is going there, something on your system has a serious memory leak.

Remember, you can have 100GB of VM allocated. It is what is committed that matters. Any application can ask for 4GB or more, but until the application actually tries to put stuff in it, it does not 'exist' as a used system resource.

So its not normal, I mean the available memory being only half?

Windows and other programs are using the other RAM, so WoW only has what's left to use.
