the 980X requires LN2.

The theoretical load heat value is that of DOOM2 BFG cannon.

If you dont get an after market sink, the cpu will melt though your motherboard and though the case like acid blood from aliens.

Is it just me or are you actually getting funnier, aigo? I do have to admit though, I kinda miss the aigo that used to go around the CPU forum saying "Intel RAPES AMD". Whatever happened to that guy?

I'm going to purchase a computer with a CoolerMaster 932 HAF case and an i7 980x CPU. I'm not planning on overclocking any components. Will the stock cooling be ok?
With everything at stock, no OC, then the stock cooling is certainly capable, even during summertime in hot countries near the equator, for all chip models from all brands. Shipping anything with a stock cooler than can't perform well enough at stock just doesn't make any business sense, what with all the returns and possibly recall that will happen.

As for the 980X specifically, Intel finally shipped an awesome stock cooler, so definitely no worries here. In fact, I think they started selling this cooler in retail for about $20-40? There was a recent thread here about that, I believe.

AMD invested in the Rape-aXe and things just haven't been the same.

I'm still offended by the cooler they shipped with my x4 635. That thing really did not do the job. Thank goodness I didn't have to use it for very long.

Holy crap, that thing is scary, how the hell did you dig that up :awe:

I always assumed all quads would have naturally shipped with the heat-pipe cooler, not the aluminum block. When you mentioned to me some time ago that Propus in fact only shipped with the aluminum block, the first thing that went to my mind was: "No OC headroom. At all."

When you say 'did not do the job', do you mean they were unacceptably loud or were the temps borderline?

Oh, it made the news/talk radio circuit awhile back.

the temps were pretty borderline. I remember it giving me BIOS temps of around 40-45C with the side of the case off and an FM-121 (100 cfm) acting as an exhaust fan. I had to downlock and undervolt to get the temps down into the 30s @ idle. I don't know if Cool n' Quiet was just flat-out failing or what, but it was pretty sad.

Some people have also complained about the stock cooler that comes with the i7-920 and 930, but at least that thing does okay with EIST/Speedstep enabled (until you load that puppy up).

Are you sure you don't want to overclock it even a little bit? I would get an aftermarket cooler anyway since it is a $1k CPU and you have a decent case to go with it.
