Does hypnotism really work?

I've never been to one of these shows but I hear they sometimes can hypnotize a girl and by snapping his finger can cause her to have an orgasm.

At the Howard Stern show, they sometimes have them hypnotize a girl and if Howard said a particular word, they would think that he farted a really smelly one.

Why don't they ever pick a guy from the audience and make him have an orgasm? Then we can check his underwear and see if he really did.

Personally, I think this is all fake and the girls were part of the act. What do you think? Is hypnotism for real?

uhm...not per se...there exists people that are highly "influential"...(that's not the correct psychological/psychopathalogical term since i forgot it....anyone know it?)...

apparently, some doctors used it to cure dermatological diseases and such...apparently it does work to some extent on some people that receive it well...for others it may not work at all...

the extreme hypnotic events u're hearing about, IMO, aren't legit...

I know hypoticism is real from psych class..but I don't know enough about it to elaborate too much. I just know that when you're hypnotized, you can be numb to pain (not totally) and can do stuff that you can't do or do well when you're concious.

My HS psysics teacher read a book on hyponitism, and successfully hypnotised one of my class mates (at our request). His aim was a little off, and he got a few people in the class a little sleepy. He cautioned us to not listen to him and do what he said, otherwise we'd go under too.

Yes, it works. I was at this hypnotism show they had at the coffee house at school and the guy hypnotized about 30 people onstage, getting them to do all sorts of embarrassing things; he managed to convince one guy that a nerf football was his brain that had fallen out of his head. The guy stumbled around asking people to help him put his brain back in.

It's real, but it only works with certain people (the suggestible type). In general, it's overblown and doesn't operate like the talk shows, movies, etc.

Its real... but i think that it just doesn't work on everybody... some people just are very difficult to hypnotize... there was some info on this in my psych classes..

I've seen one of the shows, and it was hilarious... also have heard of frats etc hiring some of these more famous guys for parties, so I assume they're pretty legit. They'll make people do some crazy stuff!
