Does hyper threading require 2 memory sticks?

I'm getting a 2.4c P4 and am going to buy memory for it now. I was going to get a PC3200 512mb stick of HyperX (probably) but then I thought I might need 2 - 256mb sticks.

I'm printing the articles Anand wrote about hyper threading out now. Plan to read them as soon as I visit the crapper but would like a quick answer so I can go through with my order 😉

Thanks!

Hyperthreading is a function of the cpu & has nothing to do with how many sticks of ram you use.

Dual channel DDR on the other hand needs to have 2 similar sticks. 🙂

If you're going to OC it like a madman then some faster RAM might be worth the dineros too. 😀

You need 2 sticks (same size, speed) for "dual channel" operation on i865 and i875 motherboards, without it the processor runs slower because the memory bandwidth is too low.

(ed) I think the i875 chipset article has benchmarks to show the difference.
