Does having PSU at the bottom of the case matter ?

Yes, I screwed my MOBO. I guess I'll learn from mistakes. I wonder what you would do in my shoes ? Would you buy a new MOBO or RMA it ?

I admit, I'm definitely a noob when it comes to building a PC. After changing CPU cooler a couple of times I feel more comfortable in building a PC. When changing PSU I'm also changing my case so this will be my very first build

So now the question remains, How many of you reading this would do the same? I've been reading your posts Loius for quite some time, I think I know your answer. I fried a good 'new' matx mobo 2 yr ago with a pencil mod, my quad was stable at 3.6 but overheated the mofsets abd BANG!,,, I still have that board in my closet though not sending it for RMA was a real internal argument. (slaps self, self slaps back)
Spike, we now know we unplug and disharge the psu before opening the case????

Like I said... I learn from my mistakes... Obviously... I will now only open case after turning PC off

I got used to posting in bold when anandtech was in the old format w/ quotes. I used to bold and italicize when I answered within someone elses quote. It was easier to answer multiple questions in a small novella than to bo back and reread each time. I'm still not used to the new format. I miss the ever expanding quotes.

Update: I finally got my SeaSonic X750. I can say that I'm pleasantly surprised with the absence of noise coming from PSU. Although fan does not spin at startup it eventually spins but I can tell you even placing my ear by PSU I hear no noise... What a pleasure compared to my older Thermaltake PSU.

I had also purchased a Corsair 800D case, but DOA.... and no... no user error... looks like power switch was faulty. Currently in process of RMA.

Unfortunately, now I hear noise from ATI 5870 card. Due to noise from Thermaltake PSU, noise from video card was not noticed. I'm considering now getting aftermarket cooler for ATI 5870. Any suggestions on GPU cooling for 5870 ? I will be getting Corsair 800D case, and this looks like it's more suited more for liquid cooling but a bit hesitant about going liquid cooling. I prefer air or sealed liquid cooling like H50 where there's no maintenance. I'm starting to look at CoolIt OMNI ALC (universal gpu cooler).

hmm, maybe I should start another thread for this... lets see...

Don't take this the wrong way but we're talking about a freaking 5870 -- of course there's going to be noise. It's a beast of a card.

I don't have anything constructive to say beyond that. I've used an aftermarket GPU cooler just once, but it wasn't on a 5870.
