Does glasses worsen your vision over time?

I have a sister, she's about 4 yrs younger than me, we both have have vision problems. I am near sighted, less than a degree. She has astigmatism.

I was prescribe with glasses, since jr high, and rarely (almost never) wear my glasses. My vision has not gotten worse despite the fact that I never wear glasses and sit in front of a monitor all day.

My sister's vision has gotten worse over the years. She has had surgery on her eyes (something about retina detachment), but her vision would get worsen.

I'm told by optometrists that if I don't wear glasses, my vision will get worse, but that has not been true in my case. So I wonder, is it a fact or is it myth that if you don't wear glasses, your vision will get worse or vice versa.?

i have an astigmatism in my right out and am near sighted in my left. my right eye has gotten worse over the years my left eye has stayed the same. My last optometrist said i didnt have to have glasses if i didnt want them because it wouldnt affect my vision later down the line. But i took them because i get headaches from the 2 different Rx.

Since you are near-sighted (your vision good close, poor distant), sitting in front of a monitor has nothing to do with your eyesight becoming worse......now if you were far-sighted, maybe. I personally don't want you driving when you are older unless you get your glasses....your distance vision will increase in its impairment as you age and you'll eventually need to wear the dreaded glasses.

your vision may or may not change over time, i don't believe either case has to do with wearing/not wearing glasses, it has to do with your eye balls, some change and some don't

I am pretty near sighted and wear contact lenses. My vision has been pretty stable though the past 5-6 years. Hope to go for it and get LASIK soon.

yea from what i know, it doesnt matter it all. i have glasses since like 5th grade, my contact prescription is 3.5, and 3.25 (l/r) my mom has had glasses since she was like 14, and her prescription is like 8 and 8.5 we both are near sighted. while my dad has never had glasses, and just like 2 years ago he began noticing problems with his vision, and he is far sighted. but to say wearing, or not wearing glasses will effect how your eyes change really i highly doubt is possible.

Thank god you spelled grammar correctly. Most of the people who comment about grammar fail to spell it correctly. 🙂

Improve Your Vision Without Glasses or Contact Lenses

I bought this book a while ago. It was an interesting read but I didn't follow through with the exercises. I'm near sited and only wear my glasses while driving so I didn't have much motivation. A lot of the reviewers on Amazon claim that their vision improved(but didn't become perfect).

If I remember correctly, the idea was that glasses are a like a crutch. They temporarily fix the problem. Doing the exercises strengthens the eyes and allows you to lower your prescription.
