If you are stupid enough to want to take the GED instead of graduate high school, I find it hard to believe that your problem is boredom with stupid teachers. It is more likely that you are stupid and high school is too hard.

Here in Oregon, it is legally equivalent. :)

I think it is in most states. The problem is, say I was hiring somebody. I have two applicants. One has a GED, one has a diploma. I'm hiring the graduate. He'll run into this everywhere he goes.

4.0ish GPA
1210 SAT

With a 1210 SAT, even being instate, UC Berkeley is way out of the question. As in, not even close. That SAT score is barely top 1/3. Most of the UCs won't really think about something with that SAT score. Sorry. Maybe UCSB or Riverside?

Do not drop out. You can get into good schools with a GED though. Score high enough on your ACT or SAT and they do not care. I am an ABE instructor and my adult education center has had several students go to prestigious schools.

Get into Berkeley with a 1210 SAT and a GED? You better be a black man adopted by native americans living on a reservation planning to major in music. Seeing how SAT scores are watered down now, a 1210 these days makes you barely above the average college bound HS senior from 1990.

You want to drop out because school is boring? What makes you think college coursework is so inspiring? Next in line, joining the professional work place is much, much more mundane and boring than HS. Suck it up, you need to learn how to adapt.

If you're going to get a sh*tty major like environmental science, you might as well straight go to work and do school in your spare time because those majors aren't worth crap. The work experience you can get in 4 years in a sales/business position is potentially worth much more than a degree in a crappy major like music.

It would be better to get your diploma.
Dont do the GED just to get out of the work of finishing high school.

That being said, a GED won't "ruin your life" like some have said.
It will make it harder to get into good colleges.
But if you go to a community college for a year or two, nobody will even care whether you had a diploma or GED.
And if you transfer from a community college to Harvard(quite possible if you get a high GPA in your community college classes), then nobody will care about your GED or your community college.

In other words, it is never too late to improve your academic standing. Most employers and grad schools, etc, will only care about your most recent schooling.

well heres the plan in life. I want to be a developer and own some investment properties early as possible and live off the income from the properties. So I really don't plan on being in the 9-5 workplace for too long at least, i want to enjoy what i do, if it was too mundane for me i probably couldn't stand doing it.

it depends; in regards to college admissions? yes it looks bad... for sake of moving on to a CC early, it does the trick just fine

As more and more time passes, a GED matters less and less.

Just make sure you can get into college. After you get your BA/BS, that's what matters for education requirements for hiring, and even that pales in comparison to the impression YOU make of YOURSELF, and your level of experience.

With that said, I still wouldn't do it. Just finish the English. You might even be able to take college level English classes for dual HS/college credit through PSEO. I'd look into that.

Nothing is more hilarious than a jaded high school student.

PROTIP: College classes will be boring too. Suck it up and quit whining.

There I go again, posting before I finish reading the whole thread. Let me just say, ditto, what he said!

get a few SAT books and study during class and bump your score 150 points. That's what we call efficient use of our time. Whining about senioritis to an internet forum in september is what we call inefficient use of our time

High school Diploma = A couple years of school.
GED = Spending a couple hours passing a couple of Tests.

You make the call.
