Does folding (or gpu crunching in general) load up the GPU card like furmark?

Temps get really high with furmark or the PSU test on Occt 3.0.1.

Is this true with a constant load on the GPU for crunching applications too? Can the coolers keep up for continuous loading?

From what I've noticed on my 8800 GT and 4870, temps in folding are much lower then those reached in furmark. I guess that if we had furmarks temps on our cards, nobody would ever fold again. :)

Anyways I'm more of a BOINC guy. Global worming is more important for me then cancer. And I like to use the cpu instead of the GPU.

there is a CPU AND GPU folding project. heck there is a boinc based folding app.

What kind of temps are the cards running after four to six hours of uninterrupted processing?

Folding will load up your gpu pretty good. Sometimes, it varies a little due to assignment workload, but my 8800GT with the cooler listed in my sig is only 2C less from folding compared to Furmark.

You've gotta remember that folding and such will not completely load up a GPU because it will only utilize a portion of it; AFAIK the things like the rasterizer aren't used; only the shader processors are used, plus a little bit of the memory.
