Does flatulence have particles of fecal matter?

This may get locked, but I was wondering if gas clouds have particles of waste. That would be really disgusting.

I was eating my dinner.

See you in 2 weeks !

The official answer, is no.

Are you sure? This is actually something to think about... If there wasn't clothing in the way, wouldn't at least SOME fecal matter be expelled?

I believe the answer is yes, because everytime I fart in my friends faces they get really upset.

I just say it's only wind, but they insist that there are microscopic pieces of dung that get tossed out as well.

Negative. How do you think the smell gets to your nose? Tiny particles...

How the sense of smell works.

"Smell is a very direct sense. In order for you to smell something, molecules from that thing have to make it to your nose. Everything you smell, therefore, is giving off molecules -- whether it is bread in the bakery, onions, perfume, a piece of fruit or whatever. Those molecules are generally light, volatile (easy to evaporate) chemicals that float through the air into your nose. A piece of steel has no smell because nothing evaporates from it -- steel is a non-volatile solid."

Reminds me of Elijah Wood in The Ice Storm when he does a presentation infront of his high school class on this exact topic and he concludes with something like:

"So the next time you go into a bathroom after someone else has just been there, remember what you are, in fact, eating."

Are you naked when you do this? I'd think your clothing would filter most of those particles out.

Why would he get a 2 week vacation for this? This is funny and interesting.. not inappropriate.
Nazi mod on duty?

Because it's the dinner hour for many
and he should know better than to engage in
toilet room talk here.

Never question the hand of Mod.

Why did he get banned?

It sounds like a legitimate question to me.

And the answer is yes, a lot of the time. What do you think the smell is?

Clothing isn't going to do much filtering, obviously....

It's the simple M.

Maybe it belongs in Highly Technical.

Not only is a legit question, it's answered on howstuffworks.com as #139 as linked above. It can't be *that* bad. Oh well...
