Does EXECUTED mean something else in China? In this day and age, people are executed over a $500k fraud? OMG Enron execs, etc even Martha should thank their lucky stars they're not in China or its gonna be a serious whomp ass.

Props to him for having multiple chicks though(even though i think he's dead) :(

In Vietnam, you'll be executed if you're caught selling any kind of narcotics. and they don't care about diplomacy.

Note that it is a serious crime to do something like that at a "State-run" bank. Crime against the government is punishable by execution or being overrun by a tank.

You can usually get off by paying the officals a little bribe, but not for something like this.

Half a million dollars is a lot in China, since things are so cheap over there. The average salary in the cities is about 4000-5000 USD/year. 500k is like living in heaven as a big balla for the rest of your life overthere.

and that's the right thing: they shouldn't care about diplomacy.

people should learn to behave in a manner that is appropriate in whichever country they are in. just because you are a foreigner doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.

Executions are nothing in China. For all the complaints and jokes about executions in the United States, China far far exceeds it.

It is interesting the way the article describes it - almost as though the execution preceeded the other arrests. Wonder if there was a trial (not that it matters much in china anyway).

I remember seeing a video of some ex-beauty queen in China that was executed for fraud.

She wouldn't shut up until they put a bullet in her head.

Sad.

Yup. Remember that whole mess a few years back in Taiwan, where they caught the American punk teenager stealing and they CANED his ass? (literally, mind you!)

I think we should bring back corporal punishment....whipping, the stockade where the townspeople pelt you with rotten fruit, etc.

The Arab world has the right idea too; get caught stealing, they cut off your hand in the middle of the town square with a rusty blade. You die, too bad.

Imagine doing that in Times Square, NYC, on live TV? Fvck MTV, we've got Amputation TV!!!!

You won't do it again, now will you? Mighty strong deterrent, IMHO.

Big difference MichaelD, Taiwan doesn't cane people unless you're a grade school student. They don't even execute drug dealers there.

While I won't deny the Chinese government is way too heavy-handed and oppressive, how is this particular execution an example of that?

Do you think they should have just let him go free?

I didn't know that. Why beat kids and not adults? I don't get it. They should beat the adults too!

Prison is a nice moderation :)

I do like the caning system in Singapore. I think it's good for a criminal to have a nice caning every once in a while.

Well, there's an old saying, something like if you beat the kids, they grow up learning respect..etc

As for adults, they stick to something more traditional like jail, or exile to an off shore island.

IMHO, better than the commie bastards in China.
