Don't get me wrong, I loved their first two albums.. But do they ever tweak their sound at all? Their new album - evolver (ironic, aye?) sounds exactly like their old stuff.. Don't get me wrong, some people have such a solid, timeless sound that they don't have to evolve.. Bob Dylan, Springstein, even U2.. But 311s sound is so mid-90s and it's frustrating since I do believe they have potential...

If by sound the same you mean sound amazing, then yes, they do.

Yes, they all sound amazing..... amazingly the same. Its impressive to me that they can write so many songs that are distinguishable from each other, yet they all seem to be part of one song that is ridiculously long.

The word "amazing" gets thrown around way too much here, but this is just out of line.

311 = crud

I used to like them. I was a huge fan of Grassroots and Music, but I just got tired of the same old crap over and over from them.

When their first two albums came out, they were unlike anything I had heard. Their music nowadays is cookie-cutter and uninspired.

As compared to what?

Dude, all of their SONGS sound the same.

Why change what's already amazing? I don't get tired of their songs, or their style.

Again, our definitons of amazing obviously differ.

They have been making the same album for 10 years. There is nothing amazing about that.

Like I said earlier, there is no doubt that their style was once different and had a sense of originality.

But their sound is tired and used up.

You're trying to tell me that U2 hasn't evolved?
What have you been listening to?

What would you like them to do? I'm glad they're stuck in a mid 90's sound, we had some great stuff out then. I'm not sure why it left, but I sure do miss it.

They have their own sound. At least they have not sold out like a majority of bands today.

By the way, their newest release is great.

affirmative.

funny thing is that i heard them on loveline the other week. some guy called in and asked if there was going to be any rapping on the new album to which the bassist responded with a rant about how they wanted to evolve musically and rapping would prevent that. must be a slow evolution...

U2 has evolved.. But their "sound" remains relatively constant (well, if you forget their "POP" album).. ditto with bob dylan.. He's experimented and even changed styles yet his core sound remains timeless and constant..

Most alternative sounds the same, say the techno listeners.
Most techno/trance/house/etc sounds the same, say the alternative and punk listeners.
