Does eating constantly really work for losing weight? How often should a person do squats?

I've heard some people say that eating small meals/snacks through-out the day will help to speed up the metabolism and shed extra pounds. Any truth behind this?

I sure as hell hope its true, I made myself 10 ziplock bags with a couple of baby carrots, brocolli and a small piece of celery to eat every hour.

For the bodybuilders I was wondering how often should a person do squats? I did some for the first last Thursday, man talk about being sore for a couple of days. I did 4 sets, 10 reps each with 165 pounds. I think I read somewhere that squats help the entire body to grow muscle.

Small meals will help burn calories. I do 4-6 small meals per day. Try for 6, settle on 4 when I have to. I try to limit my carbs depending upon whether I'm packing on mass or leaning out.

As for squats, they are essential to overall growth, including your legs. I work legs once per week. If you are building muscle, also try to include deadlifts, another mass packing, growth ensuring movement.

Drink lots of water too.

Umm... the one piece of advice I've consistently gotten about GAINING weight was to eat 6 small meals a day rather than 2-3 large meals.

What's up with that now ?

First no matter if the meals are large 1 a day meals or 10 little meals. If you eat more calories than you use you gain, if you eat less you lose.

Several small meals keep metabolism up. The by-product is burning more calories.

Several small meals also help get in calories. If you get to the point were you are around 175lbs+ of lean mass you begin to realize eating sucks. A meal can be a 30min chewing fest....breaking up your calories let's you enjoy food more perhaps.

Squats are what is considered a 'power' movement. Muscles all sort of grow together. If you work only your right arm, your left grows a little too.

With Squats...so many muscles are incorporated it causes the whole body to adapt to the load. That is not going to even you huge arms ever, but it will allow your work to your arms to be more effective.

Also for these exercises to work, you need to go heavy. 3 sets of 10 or less is fine if you are doing them 'right'....working legs is one of the things that can cause some to get faint due to so much oxygen being used.

The big 3 is sort of squats, deadlifts, and cleaning the weight doing all these will pretty much pull in all important muscle groups seriously. You can add bench and a few others and be done. Power lifting is short. You go and move a massive amount of weight and rest, come back 2 days later....sometimes more.

The thing is though....most do the power moves with no enough weight....they say they are doing 10....but they could do perhaps even 15 if they focused. If you go to the gym long enough you will see more people not getting any results at all.

this is just a guess on my part, but could it be that eating many small meals is better for putting on MASS BUT ALSO conducive for lossing FAT??

I must be really weak, after I finished doing my set of squats my legs were shakey. In fact I'm still a little sore today and I did that workout on Thursday.

Does anyone know if there a lot of calories or carbs in carrots, celery and brocolli?

These are all things you can look up...but in general almost all vegetables are low in calorie content, high in vitamins.

This is a quick list and not so good....search google for 'calories in vegetables'

165 x 10 is not a bad start to squats.
