hello, yea my computer is kind of loud and im lookin for ways to quiet it....i got passive coolers on my north bridge and GPU from zalman....all my fans are running at lowest rpm possible around 1000 they are not audible...the only thing i cant shut up is the frickin harddrives....even though they are both FDB from maxtor...i still hear a high pitch droning noise...was wondering if dynamatmight do the trick?
 
Dynamat really just stops vibrations... that's all that any of that stuff does. You might be able to get rid of that noise... but it would be cheaper to just get yourself some headphones. 😀
 
Does it help, yes. Does it help enough to worry about, no.

I'm using it to sparsely in my system to quiet some noise areas, but I also came across mine for real cheap. Don't think it will silence the system for you.


Are you drives held off the case with rubber grommets or anything similar?
 
what cooling fans are you using ?

Try using 120mm fans they're alot quiter than 80mm fans & cool alot better.

I heard dynamat smells like tar. I tried carpet pad to silence , but changing to a chenbro jr case w/ 2 - 120mm fans made
a bigger diff. Also when you use carpet pad or dynamat it will raise the temp in your case.

I tried some generic Dynamat-type material a few years ago and noticed no difference in the noise level. After a while the material started to melt because of the heat and I had to get a replacement side panel. Real Dynamat might be better though.

Dynamat is designed for cars, where high-performance speakers are constantly being hindered by door panel vibrations, and for that type of application it works great. It really dampens those vibrations. But as far as home applications go, I don't really think it'll make a significant difference.
