Does DVI transmit in HD? does it carry sound?

I have an extra DVI cable and I'm wondering if it's useful to connect a Blu-ray player to a TV. Not even sure if said boxes have a DVI I/O.
 
Newer boxes (probably all Blu-ray machines) will not have a DVI out. Not saying you couldn't use and HDMI to DVI cable for the video, but you probably don't have an extra one of those lying around 🙂
