Does DVI transmit in HD? does it carry sound?

I have an extra DVI cable and I'm wondering if it's useful to connect a Blu-ray player to a TV. Not even sure if said boxes have a DVI I/O.

No audio but DVI can transmit HD signals.

Newer boxes (probably all Blu-ray machines) will not have a DVI out. Not saying you couldn't use and HDMI to DVI cable for the video, but you probably don't have an extra one of those lying around

The TV didn't have HDMI either, oh well. Amazon has DVI cables for $2.
